The path of least resistance
Yesterday I had a beautiful experience of going for a snow-shoe walk near the 3-peak mountains in the Dolomites. The whole walk is by the river stream that ends up in the Landro lake. As I walked along I watched the stream that was beginning to run again after being frozen through the winter. It was so beautiful to look at, the way it meandered among the rocks on a path that isn’t direct and straight, but is the path of least resistance.
Abraham talks a lot about taking the path of least resistance. It feels hard sometimes though. A clear, linear path is how we’re trained our whole lives to think and what to plan for. It feels safer somehow. You can see what’s ahead. A meandering path means you can’t see around the corners. It looks like a huge boulder in front of you, while on the other side there can be something beautiful.
But to follow the path of least resistance means having a lot of trust, in yourself and the universe. You need to trust that everything is always working out for you. You need to know and trust that the stream leads easily and beautifully to the lake of abundance and possibility. You need to trust that the universe has a better way than your linear and well-thought-out plans.
Having the courage to follow that path is something I try to embody. And I fail often. But yesterday was a wonderful reminder of how the path of least resistance really looks in nature, and how it looks in my life too.
When I look back at all the times I did follow the meandering path, consciously or otherwise, I can see all the twists and turns that led me to something far greater than I could have imagined for myself.
All you have to do is set the intention of where you want to end up. The rest you leave to the universe and it carves out the path for you. That path will be far more magical and full of richness than you could imagine for yourself. It will give you more treasures and opportunities to engage with yourself and your life than you could have found on the straight path.
We have that saying “keep on the straight and narrow” and it’s all about being sensible and closing out the options. But does that really work long term? Why not try the path of least resistance for awhile and see where the universe wants to take you rather than trying to carve a path for yourself? Then you can see which is the more magical and the more fulfilling path. Remember always that you’re completely free to choose it all.
